This article aims to analyze the perception of employers of small companies about the professional competences developed by the graduated students of the Superior Course of Technology in Management Processes, of the Federal Institute of São Paulo - Campus Caraguatatuba. For this, a qualitative, exploratory, and descriptive research is shared, which used the semi-structured interview procedure to generate data that were typified in: basic competences, social, technical-professional, and problem-solving skills. With the findings, it can be concluded that, in the employers’ perception, the professional competences developed by the IFSP-CAR meet the needs of the labor market of small local companies, predominating a convergence between employers regarding communication skills, respect for diversity, adaptability and social responsibility. The data also showed a devaluation on the part of employers about skills related to strategy, creativity, innovation, decisions, projects, and consulting, due to the predominant family culture in the organizational structure of most companies.
